Elizabeth Vassall was married to another man when she met and fell in love with the English Whig politician Henry Fox, 3rd Baron Holland. They had their first child before marrying in 1797. Elizabeth Lady Holland became a famous society hostess and champion of the Whig party. She entertained the political and literary elite of the day at Holland House, including Lord Grey, Sir Walter Scott, and Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
