I loved the movie, but I'm starting to think John Cusack might be why. I didn't like any of the characters in the book and I didn't feel like any of Rob's justifications for some of the things he did made him easier to understand or more likeable. However, I always like stories where people talk about the inner implications of being confronted with change so I did enjoy reading it despite the failed attempt at making a selfish man appear decent.

I never would have thought to link Charles Dickens and Prince, but here you have it. It was interesting to learn about the many similarities between the two, especially just how dedicated to their work they were.

My first Nick Hornby (how did I avoid for so long?!). Actually quite enjoyed it, although I'm sure I've come across very similar plots before (spouse starts acting different, family cant cope, lots of struggles, then everything rights itself - almost - in the end), so it's not exactly unique.

Is it awful to say I liked the movie better? I did. It was a good book. I like how Will and Marcus were woven together. As much as they didn't believe they had anything in common I thought they were so similiar. They dealt with a different set of problems but the core of who they were was the same. Both of them a little odd dealing with people that they didn't understand fully and who didn't understand them. Nick Hornby has an amazing way of dealing with depression and suicidal tendencies in an honest but still somehow allowing you to see an amost comical side to all of it.… (more)
