Unfortunately, I abandoned the book in chapter 18. Too grisly for me. The other plot from 1955 was intriguing, but not enough to get me to read a fourth, grotesque, brutal crime scene and work through the subsequent dialogue. This is the same reason I stopped reading Patterson's Alex Cross series. After the first few Alex Cross books, it got too grisly, and personally, I don't need such graphic images in my head. No knocks against Alan Jacobson's writing. "It's not you; it's me."

[b: The 7th Victim Karen Vail 1|4008488|The 7th Victim (Karen Vail, #1)|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388856695s/4008488.jpg|4054844] by [a: Alan Jacobson|171422|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1316276000p2/171422.jpg] is a suspense filled novel. I have a "girl crush" on Protagonist Karen Vail.

I got hooked on Alan Jacobson when I read [b:The Lost Codex: An OPSIG Team Black Novel]. I received that book for free in exchange for an honest review. It is number three in a series. The mark of a fine writer is that each book in a series can stand alone, and "The Lost Codex..." does.

My only gripe is that I had not read any of the Karen Vail books before "The 7th Victim." If I had, by the time I got to "The Lost Codex..." I would have been better prepared with my fan club garb.

"The 7th Victim" introduces Karen Vail as a Profiler for the FBI. This novel, published in 2008 was of an era that did not appreciate the methods of criminal profiling. The lack of appreciation was double for women.

This story grabbed this reader, and slammed me against the passenger seat. This journey is full of twists, straightaways and sharp turns.

As a voracious reader, I appreciate not seeing what is coming.

When I saw this, I had other books on my plate to read and review. As I peeked open the cover of "...7th Victim," I was unable to stop the momentum. With six books in the series, this reader has much to look forward to.

Thank you [a: Alan Jacobson|171422|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1316276000p2/171422.jpg] for feeding my addiction.

I received an advance uncorrected proof of [b: The Lost Codex : An OPSIG Team Black Novel] from [a: Alan Jacobson|171422|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1316276000p2/171422.jpg], via Net Galley for an honest review. I received the book in August, and read it in a few days.

These days it is difficult to find books in a series which stand-alone well. [b: The Lost Codex|25739780|The Lost Codex (OPSIG Team Black #3)|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1434485224s/25739780.jpg|45264869] has that distinction. I have not read the first two books in the OPSIG Team Black series, but have put them on my list to read.

The first paragraph in, I did not want to like this story. It seemed like another Special Ops books that was going to show how terrible Muslims are, but in my growing anger, I decided to continue to read. Not only was I rapidly engaged in the story line, but author Jacobson's superb writing kept me firmly strapped into the speeding SUV, Plane, Train, Parachute, at the Museum and on the Boat.

"The Lost Codex" is filled with ancient and modern history. There was not prejudice against Muslims or any other religion, but it did raise questions over long held beliefs which have their origin in the Middle East.

For me the topper on the cake was the strong female protagonist Karen Vail, who was no stronger than any of her co-operators; Hector DeSantos, or Aaron Uziel, but she was held as a strong and able leader throughout the entire story.

This was exciting and contained more twists than the Twisted Colossus at Valencia, California Six Flags. [a: Alan Jacobson|171422|Alan Jacobson|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1316276000p2/171422.jpg] is an excellent writer and weekly I will hear a news item, or see a black SUV, and think about this novel.

Content: Violence - Yes.
Sexual - It is alluded to, but nothing graphic that I recall.

If you like Clive Cussler, Lee Child, or Robert Stone, I think it is a good guess you will love Alan Jacobson's, OPSIG Team Black Series.

Very slow to start. I found the prison scenes more interesting than the police scenes, due to the annoying and glib banter between Vail and just about everyone. Halfway through the action started to pick up, and the book got so much better. Very satisfactory ending.
