Cute idea. I liked the kid's cowgirl voice, and her imagination. The illustrations match the tone and text nicely. Lynne Avril's illustrations could have shown a bit more diversity in the neighborhood kids.

This is a great book to share with students that are new students to the school. Nelli Sue's day was not going well because she didn't have a seat on the bus by her friends and had to sit in the back of the class. Everything was not going her way from P.E.to recess. Making new friends at school may seem difficult but you have to keep an open, positive mind. Nelli Sue's day gets turned around at the end of the day by accepting new friends into her life.

I always find that rhyming texts work very well for younger children, keeping them involved with the musicality of the reading process, even when they don't understand every word, so I appreciated that aspect of Jammy Dance. I can't say this was a particular favorite otherwise, from either a narrative or illustrative standpoint, but it was very sweet, and I imagine will hit the right note for some parents and children. Recommended to anyone looking for rhyming bedtime books that celebrate the restless spirit that sometimes keeps children up.… (more)
