The Dark
By: Jason Brant
Narrated by: Robert Martinez
This book has a scary vibe from the very beginning! It follows a few scattered people and their experiences in the Dark. They eventually come together and hope to get rescued.
The only people alive now are people that had light with them when a giant explosion happened at a research facility. The dead are not staying dead. They stay in the Dark and try to lure people in or grab those that lose their light source.
Very scary and creepy. Not much to see in the way of monsters but the psychological aspect is scary as heck!
Of course the government is trying to cover it up, but they won't be able to if there are survivors!
Great narration! I received this book from freeaudiblecodes.

The Gate
By: Jason Brant
Narrated by: Robert Martinez
This is a creepy story filled with a lot more than a ghostly church. I thought it was going to be a haunted house story with this strange TV ghost hunting group but this is more fantastic and horrible than that!
There is a terrific backstory to the haunted place. The characters are unique and well developed. The world build and atmosphere created is dark and dreadful. The crew assembles and the nightmare begins.
The book starts bringing more and more clues to light until wham! The crew isn't in Kansas anymore Dorothy! Things, creatures, and impossible situations come into being and they have to find a way to survive.
This book is imaginative, creepy, suspenseful, and ends just right! The narration is great too! I received this book from freeaudiblecodes.

How do you spell relief? For former Army Lieutenant Asher Benson, its spelled B.E.E.R.
Benson has a strange form of PTSD derived from a brain injury caused by an IED explosion that killed the rest of his team. His injury causes him to know the thoughts of everyone around him. It is an affliction, while useful at certain times, is overpowering and best controlled by copious quantities of beer. The result is a persona of vagrancy.

However, Asher’s psychic ability is not unique. There are others with psychic abilities, some more controlled and powerful; as Asher will find out, some are bound for revenge.

Ash is a thriller that combines dry, tongue-in-cheek humor with nonstop action and a tendency for the reader to cry “uncle” in sympathy for Asher…after all, how much can one man take? But Asher seems to be willing to take it all.

This is tall tale, one in which the main character has an ability that is not fully believable, an ability to absorb punishment that is not believable, and a lifestyle that is only marginally believable. Nevertheless, readers will cringe with empathy for Asher. His friend, Drew Lloyd, and Nami are more believable characters and Sammy is quite believable…especially her disbelief that a chance encounter with Asher has placed her life in danger.

Laced with sarcastic humor in the face of potentially fatal circumstances, this book will keep thriller and action books readers glued to edge of their seats well into the night.

I'm a big fan of books that combine the Western and Zombie genres. And this one did not disappoint. Easy to read, good pacing, and characters that I cared about. Plus a few gory zombie scenes.

I liked Gehenna slightly better, and am looking forward to the next book, Sheol. But not looking forward to it being the end of the story...
