A solid, if slightly forgettable, adaptation, highlighting and making use of many of the (to me) more memorable aspects of the original story, but usually failing to really push them and elevating them in the new medium. Cast is quite good, too, with solid child acting, even if the parents steal the show: Jason Isaacs is absolutely terrific in the dual role as the hapless father and the cruel Hook, and Olivia Williams captures Mrs. Darling's famous mysterious-yet-warm incarnation of motherhood to a degree I'd be hard pressed to expect a human being to manage.… (more)

Indiana Jones begins a globe-trotting quest to find the lost Ark of the Covenant before a group of Nazis led by a rival archaeologist can get their hands on the ancient artifact.

The ultimate adventure movie of all-time, Raiders of the Lost Ark introduces one of the greatest film heroes of all-time in its series' namesake, Indiana Jones. Played to perfection by Harrison Ford, Indy's first adventure features several iconic movie names at the top of their game -- Steven Spielberg as the director, Ford as the lead actor, and John Williams crafting the masterful soundtrack all come together to create one of the most iconic films of all-time. There's not a single moment that's dull or boring, and it will continue to cement its legacy as a classic for years to come. Highly recommended.

Content Concerns: There's some violence with a little bit of bloodshed in some scenes. Language-wise, there are about 8 uses of profanity, two of which are "g-dd-mn."

Gets an undeservedly bad reputation, in my opinion. This was my initial impression in the movie theatre, and it's stayed my impression on rewatches in the many years since. While certainly far from perfect, the film feels like a natural and genuine continuation, and has virtually the exact same tone and feel as "Last Crusade" did. The callbacks are cute, relatively organic (and in several cases, surprisingly subtle by the franchise's standards) and the plotline is exciting and different without being jarringly so. I definitely like "Lost Ark" and "Last Crusade" better, but the latter not by much, and all three of them are immensely superior to "Temple of Doom" (Short Round aside).… (more)
