The Hon. Mary Katherine Adelaide Lubbock, née Stanley, was the daughter of Arthur Stanley, 5th Baron Stanley of Alderley, who served as Governor of the Australian state of Victoria, and his wife Margaret Evans Gordon. She spent much of her childhood in Sydney, and wrote the memoir People in Glass Houses: Growing Up in Government House (1977).
