Paul Lyons (1942-2009) taught U.S. history and social policy at Stockton College. He was the author of five books, most recently The People of This Generation: The Rise and Fall of the New Left in Philadelphia.

I could only get halfway through this. I found the characters insipid and the writing forced, as the author tried to inject these supposedly cool wandering nomadic youths with some sort of zest that just fell flat. I started chuckling out loud at a few points, especially the scene in an art museum (the protagonist talks about how one of his tricks for impressing girls is to stare at paintings for longer than they do, and to always watch all of the credits at the end of a foreign film), which is when I knew I couldn't keep reading.… (more)
