Harvey MacKay graduated from both the University of Minnesota and the Stanford University School of Business. In 1959, at the age of 26, he purchased a small, failing envelope company and turned it into Mackay Mitchell Envelope Company, a $100 million business. He is the chairman and CEO of the show more company and a nationally syndicated columnist for United Feature Syndicate. He is the author of several books including Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive, Beware the Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt and The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World. Sometimes I write about a book a few days after I finished reading it to recollect what I remember. This book is filled with little quips, sayings, and ideas ... none of which I can quote!

So I had to knock it down another star. I do remember the people he interviewed .. Larry King, Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King, Donald Trump, Bill Belichick .... and even my boss (well, about 5 levels on top of me), Sue Johnson.

Though the words escape me I'm sure I learned a few things from the book. Quoting quotes sounds intelligent but it's when the concepts jive that you really are intelligent.… (more)

There is a reprint of this book printed in January 2005 but I read the book from 1989 when Japan was on the verge of taking overtaking the United States and the Internet was just something that Al Gore used. 

It is old but still a lot of good advice in this book. The tone is matter-of-fact and bordering on in-your-face. He won me over when he said that when you’re selling something, you should keep what you’re selling separate from whom you are: because honestly, we are lousy products.

After typing in the (very long) table of contents, I'm having my doubts about this book.

It was not as bad as I thought it might be. I agree with some of the other reviewers who say that some of the information may not be as relevant today as it was at the time this book was written.

Another original, unique, independent piece of work that offers extra skills to life. I highly recommend this book.
