It starts much the same way as MILLIONS OF CATS, with a lonely old couple, but instead of adopting a kitten, they bake a gingerbread man...who promptly runs away, chanting his famous taunt ("Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man"). He eludes the man and woman, hungry schoolchildren and animals, but at last is tricked by a fox who promises to swim him across a river - but eats him as they journey across. The cheery palette of the illustrations lightens the rather grim ending.… (more)

33 months - I like that this is a co-reading book. Adults read the left, kids read the right. Puzzles and activities at the end. We will have to re-visit these books.
