Jeanne-Sophie Guillemaut de Beaulieu, by marriage Jeanne-Sophie Mallès de Beaulieu, was born in Lorient, Brittany, in northwestern France. She became a prolific writer of moral conduct stories for children. Her best-known work was the 1820 novel for young people, Le Robinson de douze ans: histoire intéressante d’un jeune mousse français, abandonné dans une île déserte, adapted from Daniel Defoe.
