2022 Movie #119. 1947. Young widow (Tierney) moves to a seaside cottage in 1900 to get away from her in-laws. The cottage is haunted by its former owner, Captain Gray (Harrison). Enjoyable romance. An 8-yo Natalie Wood makes an appearance. The b/w cinematography won an Oscar.

A sports reporter marries an important journalist.

2/4 (Indifferent).

There are a handful of funny parts, and Tracy & Hepburn are good together. But it pushes the relationship problems too far to be redeemable. It might have made a good drama, with a very different ending.

A widow is haunted by a sea captain.

2/4 (Indifferent).

The first half is pretty great. The second half is bafflingly awful. What kind of romantic comedy decides halfway through that it's going to try to be a serious melodrama instead? Why would you do that?

Roman revolution leads to civil war.

Not as good as the play; they cut out way too much. Although, what's there is done quite well. I enjoyed the first hour and a half or so quite a bit, but they chopped the ending to pieces.
