Short biography
In 1625, Henrietta Maria, a French princess, married King Charles I of England. Tension over her Catholicism marred the couple's early years together, but eventually they became devoted to one another, and Henrietta Maria was an active and loyal supporter of her husband throughout the English Civil War. She was the mother of Kings Charles II and James II, and of Princess Henrietta of England, who became Duchess of Orleans.
