Laura, Duchess of Marlborough, was the second wife of John Albert Edward William Spencer-Churchill, 10th Duke of Marlborough. They were married in 1972, six weeks before his death. It was her fourth marriage. She had been born Frances Laura Charteris, and previously married and divorced Walter Long, 2nd Viscount Long; William Ward, 3rd Earl of Dudley; and was the widow of Michael Temple Canfield, an American publishing heir. She was a daughter of The Hon. Guy Lawrence Charteris, heir to the Earl of Wemyss, and his wife Frances Lucy Tennant. Her older sister Ann married the novelist Ian Fleming. Laura wrote her autobiography, Laughter from a Cloud, with the assistance of Hugo Vickers.
