Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness by Deb Marlowe
Half Moon House series #1.7. Historical romance novella. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Viscount Brodham, Simon Lansing, doesn’t trust Miss Liberty Baylis from America. He’s had years of experience in helping people keep secrets and avoiding scandal. So, of course, he’s going to help his nephew from the scandal of woman advertising her need to see Peter again. Liberty just wants to help Peter and Felicity be together and spinning Simon in circles is just entertaining enough to made the dull London season worth staying for.

Simon and Liberty are like fire and water, sparking off each other, and trying to get the best of the other. Within the means of society, of course. At least while they are in public. Who can resist a hedge maze? Sometimes talking needs to be done with kisses.
Appealing with a great wrap up.

An Unexpected Encounter by Deb Marlowe
Half Moon series 1.5. Historical romance novella. Can be read as a stand-alone. Originally published as part of an anthology.
Lizbeth Moreton expects to meet a date at the British museum. Instead she finds a young girl seemingly on her own. Making sure the girl is ok, she encounters Lord Cotwell, who promptly offers her a job as governess.
Lisbeth is caught between the ton and the gentry and her future is precarious. Taking care of Aurelia temporarily may open other options.

A sweet manipulation has two like minded people working together to keep a young girl safe and feel secure. A bit of romance blooms though it’s not without a hiccup or two. The best outcome, of course, for this little novella.

Murdered on the Mirrored Lake by Deb Marlowe
The Kier and Levett Mystery series #3. Historical mystery with a touch of romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series in order.
Former maid Sally Doughty in trying to unearth secrets. She is killed at the lake that Miss Kara Levett has dedicated to her women’s club. When Kara finds out, she will investigate herself, not just because she knew the woman, but because she was once hand-fasted to Mr Niall Kier. As Kara and Niell ask questions, the danger mounts for them both. Are they being betrayed?

Twists and dark turns, back door conspiracies and tangles of friends and foe. Back to the area of town where the booby traps lie, Niall and Kara are track clues from person to person. It’s dangerous but at the same time, if they don’t investigate, are they the ones now in danger? The conspiracy is getting bigger and it’s not just theirs but may impact the nation.

Compelling and intriguing, it’s a fast paced mystery you won’t want to put down.
Historical stories are growing on me and this mystery series and the clever Kara, will keep you intrigued and invested.

Death from the Druid’s Grove by Deb Marlowe
The Kier and Levitt Mystery series #2. Historical mystery with minor romance thread at the end. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
October 1851. A murder interrupts the closing ceremonies of the Great Exhibition. Mr. Naill Kier and Miss Kara Levitt begin an investigation in Druid’s Grove, a secret society, when a friend is a suspect of the local police. But nothing is as it seems in the Grove and Naill and Kara themselves are in danger as they ask questions and try to help.

Impressive. I can’t imagine the level of research it must have taken to include the details in the book, even knowing that the story itself is fiction.
I could easily visualize the scenes as these two inventors / tinkerers / scientists tracked clues and dug up facts that the police missed or weren’t trusted. The chase scene through the booby-trapped buildings was riveting as each next trap door or roof panel was narrowly missed or one of them fell victim to.
Some of the murders are heartbreaking. I loved and was so impressed with how compassionate Kara was with one of their informants. That scene alone went from dangerous to heartbreaking to admiration.
Fantastic historical mystery. I can’t wait to dive into the next book.
