It's a memoir by T. S. Matthews who was an aspiring poet in college and became a journalist, writing for The New Republic and Time. He eventually was the managing editor of the latter. But it's not about journalism; it's about the years when he was in a group of friends: Schuyler Jackson, a fellow Yale student whom he idolized, and Jackson's wife Kit; Matthews' wife Julie; and Robert Graves and Laura Riding. It looked like a gossipy account of their various romances and divorces but by page 16 I was bored by the level of detail and skimmed the rest.… (more)
