At the age of 16, following his junior year of high school, Dub enrolled in Freed-Hardeman College (now F-HU). After receiving his A.A. degree there in 1957, he earned a B.A. degree in Bible from Abilene Christian College (now ACU).

He was founding editor of The Gospel Journal in 2000, which he edited until 2005.

In 1982 he began the Annual Denton Lectures which he directed until they were discontinued in 2002.

He preached until health problems forced his retirement in 2016. He then devoted most of his time to preparing material for his website, TheScriptureCache.com
