He became the singer and songwriter for the band the Decemberists. In 2004, he wrote a 100-page book on The Replacements' third album, Let It Be. He is also the author of the children's series The Wildwood Chronicles, which is illustrated by his wife Carson Ellis. (Bowker Author Biography)
How can you sleep when everyone’s awake? Author Colin Meloy and illustrator Shawn Harris invite readers to join them for Everyone's Awake, a hilarious rhyming book about what everyone in the family is doing when they really should be resting. (karenb)
We are delighted to share Carson Ellis’ first picture book as both author and illustrator, Home. It is a whimsical work of art, filled with elegant full-page spreads, delicate hand-lettering, and unexpected surprises strewn throughout. From a country Home to an Atlantian one, to the familiar and unfamiliar, the book asks, What is Home? What does Home mean to you? A simple but deeply personal question, Ellis explores the concept of Home from the inside out. Carson Ellis has provided art for numerous book covers, including The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart and Penguin’s most recent reissue of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night. She is the illustrator of The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket and Dilweed’s Revenge by Florence Parry Heide, and collaborated with her husband Colin Meloy on the best-selling Wildwood series. She is the official illustrator-in-residence for the band The Decembrists. This event will be an evening soiree aimed primarily at her adult fans (we know you are legion!) rather than a story-time-type format. Bring your questions and bring your picture-book-loving friends and come meet one of your art heroes! In the meantime, visit Carson online here.

Bellingham is uniquely situated in one of the most beautiful places on earth, marked by rugged mountains, serene islands, dense forests and dynamic waterways. It is a place of exploration and adventure, but also rest and relaxation. Unsurprisingly, the writers and writing that emerges from this area is also uniquely beautiful. This book club will explore this writing, focusing on writers from the Pacific Northwest and writing set in or about the Pacific Northwest, both fiction and non-fiction. This group meets the fourth Monday of the month at 7pm in the Writers' Corner on the mezzanine level of Village Books. Authors DO NOT attend.
Prue McKeel's life is ordinary. That is, until her brother is abducted by a murder of crows and taken to the Impassable Wilderness, a dense, tangled forest on the edge of Portland. No one's ever gone in—or at least returned to tell of it.
