Short biography
Prince Mihai Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen became King Michael I of Romania in 1927 at the age of five, following the death of his grandfather King Ferdinand I. He was credited with saving thousands of lives in 1944, during World War II, when he arrested the dictator installed as a Nazi puppet and broke Romania's ties with the Axis powers. After the war, he was forced to abdicate and settled in Switzerland. In 1948, he married Princess Anne of Bourbon-Parma, with whom he had five daughters.
