
The evening features writers Shelley Costa, Casey Daniels, Richard Montanari and Sam Thomas, librarian Joann Vicarel and author and bookseller Jim Huang.
Shelley Costa is the author of the Italian Restaurant mysteries You Cannoli Die Once (Pocket Books 2013) and the forthcoming Basil Instinct. Shelley received her PhD at CWRU where she wrote her dissertation on the nature of suspense. Shelley is also the author of The Everything Guide to Edgar Allen Poe. She teaches creative writing at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Casey Daniels is the author of several different mystery series. The Pepper Martin series features a cemetery guide who “sees dead people,” Writing as Kylie Logan she has published the Button Box mysteries that take place in a small retail store, the Chili Cook-Off series and the League of Literary Ladies books that take place on Put-In-Bay. Casey has been a journalist and teacher and makes her living as a full time writer in Northeast Ohio.
Jim Huang has owned two mystery bookstores and is now the manager of the Kenyon College Bookstore. He is the author of several mystery reference titles including Mystery Muses: 100 Classics that Inspire Today's Mystery Writers and Organizing Crime: The Mystery Company's Guide to Series. An acknowledged expert in the mystery field, Jim published The Drood Review of Mystery from 1982-2005 and was the 2009 host of Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention.
Richard Montanari is a suspense writer who has published nine novels including The Stolen Ones (Little, Brown 2014), the seventh book to feature Philadelphia detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano. Critically acclaimed and widely published, Richard’s books have been translated into 25 languages. Before writing thrillers he was a free lance writer published in more than 200 publications including The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press and The Seattle Times. He lives in the Cleveland area.
Sam Thomas is the author of two historical mysteries featuring midwife Bridget Hodgson. The Midwife’s Tale (Minotaur 2012) and the Harlot’s Tale (2014) take place in 17th century York, England. Sam is an historian who teaches at University School. He has received research grants from the National Endowment of the Humanities, The Newberry Library and the British Academy. JoAnn Vicarel is a retired branch manager in the CH-UH Public Library system. She led a mystery book discussion group for over 10 years at the Noble branch. Her reviews and critiques have been utilized by thousands of libraries across the country.
