This is a graphic novel. The premise is that one kid is home sick and bored. Her friend comes by with a book about the solar system, so they invent a spaceship (with their pets as the fictional crew) to travel throughout the solar system – to the sun, then to all the planets and “belts” in between them and slightly beyond, where they learn about where they are visiting.

This is aimed toward kids, but I learned some stuff about the solar system, as well. I really enjoyed this. The pets as crew was kind of silly, but likely appealing to kids. I liked that there was a summary at the end of each planetary visit to explain some of the things learned. I also liked that they stopped at Pluto, even though it is no longer considered a planet. And I also enjoyed learning about a few of the planets’ moons. It was unfortunate temperatures were only in Fahrenheit, however. This book is utterly charming and amusing. It has a sneaky feel, with readers peeking inside to learn all of the gross things about butterflies. We all know they're pretty, but they can be disgusting as well. This is a great picture book with lots of non-fiction knowledge. I highly recommend grabbing this book! It's fun, sweet and simple to read. Plus, you'll learn something.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.… (more)

This book is so hilarious! Students of all ages enjoyed this read aloud. A butterfly is the narrator and talks about all the cool things butterflies do. But he's warning you... butterflies are gross. You will be shocked! We learn that some butterflies are carnivorous, stinky, sneaky, and some even have butts that look like heads. It is an entertaining informational read and gives the opportunity to talk about new vocabulary as well as lends itself to awesome butterfly crafts. The last few pages gives a synopsis about all of the different types of butterflies from the book, including where they live, what they look like, and even what they may sound like.… (more)
