Although I probably saw Mullin's cartoons in the Philadelphia area newspapers I read in the 1960s, I don't remember them. I'm a big fan of baseball and like to learn about the sport from before I got interested in it, which was in the early '70s. Since Mullin worked for a New York City newspaper, the book has a decidedly New York slant, but the 1930s and into the 1960s were largely dominated by New York teams of the era (the Yankees, Giants, Dodgers, and later the Mets) the book is still a good look at baseball. Being a long time Phillies fan, I really liked the depictions of the Phillies Whiz Kid from the early 1950s. I had never seen his depiction of the juvenile delinquent whiz kid with the sling shot in his back pocket. Highly recommended to any baseball fan who is interested in baseball history.… (more)
