英国、リーズ大学(University of Leeds)上級講師(senior lecturer)、専攻はスペイン研究と翻訳学。翻訳家(スペイン語、フランス語から英語へ)としても活躍している。専門は、翻訳理論の応用、スペイン及び南米文学の翻訳、記述的翻訳研究(特に文学作品や政治関連書における文体とイデオロギー)、及びコーパスを用いた翻訳ツールの応用、など。翻訳理論研究の第一人者であり、本書『翻訳学入門』は、翻訳理論をコンパクトにまとめた翻訳研究の基礎文献として高く評価されている。単著に“Introducing Translation Studies”(Routledge 2001, 改訂版2008), “Style and Ideology in Translation” (Routledge 2007), ハティム(Basil Hatim)との共著に“Translation:An Advanced Resource Book”(Routledge 2004)、ほか編著等。
