This is the story of Milton Ontario, a young man from small-town Saskatchewan who heads to Montreal to become a poet. It's a modern coming-of-age story that is often very funny. Milton is a great character, and his awkwardness and love for Robin are endearing.

Personally, I found some of the humour a little too juvenile for my taste; I don't think destruction of property is funny even when the property owners are rich. And I really don't like what the author did with Leonard Cohen, who is one of my favourite Canadian icons. But, overall, the book is very funny and parodies the hipster, artistic crowd.

I was born in Montreal and lived in Saskatchewan, so there were many parts of the book that I identified with and I liked most of the story. I especially liked the ending, which is a departure from the way these kinds of stories usually end. Even though it made me kind of sad, it was realistic.
