- Short biography
- Elizabeth "Lizzie" Scott was born in Mississippi to a slave-owning family that moved to Houston, Texas when she was six years old. In 1852, she married William H. Neblett, a farmer and lawyer, with whom she had five children, and lived in Anderson, Texas before later settling in Corsicana. She kept a diary of her experiences from 1852 to 1863, which, along with her letters, provides a valuable chronicle of life for women in rural 19th-century Texas.
