When I started this book I was not aware that it was going to be a series, until I got to Goodreads and noticed it was listed as Book 1. Had I known beforehand, I may have been deterred from starting it. Not that I have anything against series, it's just that my "to be read" list is so long, there is no guarantee I can find time to go back for a part 2. So I guess it's lucky for me that I didn't know in advance, because by the time I found out I was hooked on this book and it would have been a shame to miss out. While there is lots of blood and gore as you would expect in a zombie novel, it felt more like a heart pounding action thriller than the usual horror, especially never knowing which (if any) character would survive, as Meg and her husband venture out into the fray in a desperate attempt to get medical help for their child.

I received a complimentary copy for review.

Well.....what to say about this book! I don't know as I was hoping for a great finish to a trilogy I started with some buddies last year over on the Horror Aficionados group. The first book was great and I really enjoyed it. The second book was good but not great as it never grabbed me and now this third book just fell completely flat. I am not even going to elaborate on any kind of background story on the book as it is not even worth it to go into any kind of story detail. So just going to give my thoughts on it.

It seemed to start out good, but then I could tell that the story was just becoming repetitive as it started to mirror book number two and the author just wanted to rehash everything that had happened in book two in this book as well. It seemed like it might get creepy in the beginning of the book, but it never even got off the ground. The book was just dragging in spots and nothing was happening in the story. So giving this book 1.5 stars and rounding it up to two stars.

This second book in the Solom trilogy was an iffy read and I had this at four stars, but the more I thought about it I decided to change my rating to three stars. I wasn't as impressed with the second book as I was with the first. Though there was a little more action, I wasn't as creeped out as I was in the first book.

I am not going into a long drawn out review on this book as I am just going to lay out some opinions on what I read. The characters Katy and Jett are still very much active in this book, but I didn't feel the connection in this book like I did in the last book. The characters have to go through basically the same scenario as they did in the first book and though I did enjoy reading the book I was never scared while reading it. The only difference in this book is that the preacher makes himself more known, but in my opinion he was not as scary in this book. The author brought him more into the limelight throughout this book, but I wish he had stayed more in the shadows as I would rather stay in the "mystery zone" with the preacher as there would have been more of a scare factor and there wasn't one for the second book.

The goats are back in this book as well along with the scarecrow and they were more scary then the preacher in my opinion. The book does kind of go off the rails near the end of the book and there were some things that happened in the last few chapters that didn't ring my bell, but I am thinking it might be that things will be wrapped up in the third book. Questions were left unanswered in this book and I really hope that the third book reveals all! Three stars for this one.
