Anne Nivat est née en 1969.
Elle est docteur en Sciences politiques, diplômée de l'IEP de Paris, licence de Langues étrangères appliquées, Hypokhâgne.

A partir de 1998, Anne Nivat est correspondante à Moscou, de Ouest France, Le Soir, Radio Monte Carlo, US News & World report. Envoyée spéciale de Libération en Tchétchénie. Installée depuis octobre 1998 à Moscou, Anne Nivat a été arrêtée par les Russes en février 2000, interrogée puis chassée de la zone des combats.
Elle a obtenu le Prix Albert Londres pour ses articles sur la Tchétchénie, publiés notamment dans Libération et pour son livre Chienne de guerre (Fayard).

Jusque 2010, Anne Nivat était grand reporter dans les zones de conflit. Elle rejoint l'Université de Neufchâtel à cette date pour enseigner le journalisme en classe de Master. En 2014, Elle chronique à la télévision puis se consacre à l'écriture et aux documentaires
