An excellent read, a fair and balanced opinion that shared the positives and negatives of both sides of the fighting. A great eye opener into the war.

Dated it finishes with two Vietnams. The final sentence is "The prospect.must be the dark one of further communist pressure on small South East Asian states." Otherwise. I think it does convey the chaotic nature of th Vietnam war and how the other indo china nations got towed in.

Apparently Afghanistan is not for conquering. The British having been driven out, other invaders being sent off, how will the coalition of the vendors of Western democracy fare? Is the petroleum pipeline from Central Asia to the Indian Ocean worth defeat?
