"Greek designer, educated in England and France. She studied theatre design in Paris, beginning her career as assistant to Lila de Nobili. She designed Aristophanes' Frogs (directed by Karolos Koun, Greek Art Theatre, 1967) and Verdi's Aida (Franco Zeffirelli, La Scala), and productions at the Comedie-Française and the Spoleto Festival with Gian Carlo Menotti. She is especially noted for her extensive work with Peter Brook at the Bouffes du Nord in Paris, including The Cherry Orchard, The Tragedy of Carmen (both 1981), The Mahabharata (theatre 1985, and film 1989), The Tempest (1990), Impressions of Pelléas (1992), Don Giovanni, and Hamlet (2000). Her simplicity of colour and objects has been particularly suited to Brook's work. She has also designed the opera La Dame de Picques (directed by Lev Dodin, Paris, 1998) and Chekhov's The Seagull (Maly Theatre, St Petersburg, 2001)."
