'Without meditation you do not know the secrets of life, you know only the surface of life.'-OSHO

A comprehensive and practical gide to meditation, The Book of Secrets invites us to expereince and experiment with everyday life through the awareness of our thoughts, behaviours, and physical senses. Osho introduces 112 individual meditation technques based on ancient texts-and translates them into a contemporary understanding of meditation that focuses on consciousness of the present moment. Each technique is described in detail so hat we can experiment and discover those that are best suited to us and integrate them into our daiy lives.

This transformative book comes with a DVD of an original OSHO Talk, where his response to the question 'What is meditation''introduces us to a deep and direct experience of mediation, relaxation, and higher awareness. The first upgrade to meditation since Buddha's time.

In Buddha's time, dynamic methods of meditation were not needed. People were more relaxed and their lives were simpler. Now life moves at a much faster pace, which creates much more stress and tension. Just sitting directly in silent meditation is not so easy.

In this essential meditation handbook for the twenty-first century, Osho turns the traditional notion of meditation practice on its head. Meditation: The First and Last Freedom shows that meditation is not a spiritual discipline separate from everyday life in the real world. In essence, it is simply the art of being aware of what is going on inside and around us. As we acquire the knack, medtitation can be our companion wherever we are-at work, at play, at rest.

Meditation contains practical, step-by-step guides to a wide variety of meditation techniques selected by and/or created by Osho, including the unique Osho Active Meditations, which deal with the special tensions of contemporary life. Recognizing that it's almost impossible these days for most people to just stop and sit silently, these meditations-including the Osho Dynamic Meditation and Osho Kundalini Meditation-begin with one or more stages of vigorous physical activity. This brings our physical and mental energies to a peak, so that the following silence is easy-leaving us alert, refreshed, and energized.

Newly revised and resized into a handy portable format, Meditation is the perfect text to begin or continue exploring the joys of meditation.

Its hard to utter words about the significance of this book. It is a diamond in an ocean of mud. It is the key to life, if this was a high scool requirenment, the world would be a paradise. No doubt Osho knows what he is talking about, and if it is meditation one in seeking, then this is the book!-a customer

When Osho was asked whether to print this book, he looked at the content and responded, 'Yes, publish it. This will be my bible.' And so it has proved to be. Allowing so many of people like me to understand the simple, scientific principles of meditation, and with so many different ways to approach it. A jewel.-a customer

This is the book that created my greatest catharsis after many years study in philosophy, religion, spirituality, yoga and meditation. Osho seems to be one of the few who is completely free of any philosophy and old religious beliefs and has found source and love within and connection to all things-Patrick Finucane

This book made my life into a celebration from 15 years ago. It for the benefit of future readers, i am addressing the heartless comments of the above review from library journal. Osho attracted some of the greatest western and eastern minds of his generation. Like Buddha, he knew no-thought to be a prerequisite for meditation, and stated meditation is beyond the impotent state of intellectual analysis. After the analysis ends, meditation begins. Scorning unloving dead aspects of religion and society which creates unloving dead or violent individuals, he has honored the greatest number of ancient and modern masters from every tradition and culture and explained finally in clear terms their life changing significance through several dedicated discourses to each individual master. He did this while simultaneously alerting sincere individuals to the pitfalls of many bureaucracies that have cropped up to abuse their name. Unlike the above superficial library employee, his insights have the power of wisdom and has nurtured and revitalized the lives of the hundreds of thousands of individuals and truth seekers who came in contact with him through even just books, like myself. This review is severely inadequate to honor this Great man who has shown me so much joy in living.-a customer

Osho explains as only Osho can that meditation is the answer to all our problems. Meditate, still the mind and with intent all the answers that you need are there. Osho gives you the key to your own freedom. No need to ask for advice. By meditating the answer will come and it will be the answer that is right for you. Meditation should be taught in schools as an essential for life. We rely on other peoples values, ideas and thoughts and give very little credence to what may be important to ourselves - that takes courage.
Dr Gunta Krumins-Caldwell author of On Silver Wings

The new thing in this book, compared to other techniques, is the 'Active Meditations', which are created by Osho for the modern man. These techniques do NOT assume that you can sit silently, 'doing nothing, the spring comes, and the grass grows by itself', as Zen says. Instead they lead you into that space of silence. With Active Meditations, one can let go of a lot of things, suppressions, judgements and inhibitions, going on inside us, automatically creating a silent space within. Dynamic Meditation, one of the Active Meditations, is a strong cathartic, meditative and bio-energtic technique, involving breathing, catharsis, and much more. Many active techniques have spontaneous dance as a step.

Besides active techniques, it also describes a lot of other traditional methods, including Vipassana, some of them taken from traditional Indian sutras.

And these words come from an enlightened master, one who knows and understands what's going on within man and what needs to be done. Of course, a master does not speak or convince like other people.

If you are just looking for an intellectual and philosophical understanding of meditation, which is actually impossible, this book is not for you. But if you are looking for a more healthy way of life, or a transformation, and are ready to spend some time trying the techniques, and not just reading the book, this book is a must have :-)

Osho said that Dynamic Mediation is '... absolutely necessary for the modern man ... If people are innocent there is no need for Dynamic Meditation. But if people are repressed, psychologically are carrying a lot of burden, then they need catharsis. So Dynamic Meditation is just to help them clean the place. And then they can use any method ... It will not be difficult. If they, right now, directly try, they will fail'-Kamaineet Singh

The book, Meditation, is a good introduction both to meditation and to Osho's works in digital, print, audio and video formats.

Having already read and admired The Book of Secrets (112 ancient meditation techniques with commentary by Osho), I can say that The Book of Secrets may be difficult for some without some background reading, and the book Meditation is the right place to begin before reading and studying The Book of Secrets.

The book, Meditation, includes the modern active techniques by Osho as well as other materials to provide a thorough overview for the beginner, re-beginner and long-time meditator. Peace.-R. Coleman

a few weeks ago i just happened to be looking for a book to tell me something about meditation. this was the first one i grabbed off the shelf, and the moment i started to read the back cover i could feel this was the one for me. osho presents methods that are immediately impacting and easy to understand. he speaks in a language of feeling that everyone can understand. i'm still shocked that whenever i read through a few sentences in this book i'll find myself getting tears in my eyes because i know this is what it's all about. finally acknowledgement. finally appreciation. and it turns out we had it all along-Mark Meiers

'Zen is like a telegram. It believes in the very essentials. It has no nonsense around it, no rituals, no chanting, no mantras, no scriptures-just small anecdotes. If you have the right awareness, they will hit you directly in the heart. It is a very condensed and crystallized teaching, but it needs the person to be prepared for it. And the only preparation is meditative awareness.

'Zen books themselves are very fragmentary. They are telegrams-urgent, immediate, not giving you any explanation, but simply giving you the very essence, the perfume of thousands of flowers. You just have to be alert and meditative enough to absorb them. I'm trying to give a context, the right background, because I am talking to people who are not born in the Zen tradition.'-Osho

Osho (1931-1990) is a contemporary mystic whose teachings have inspired millions of people from all walks of life. His works, which are published in more than 40 languages, are transcribed from extemporaneous talks given over a period of 35 years. They cover everything from the individual search for happiness ot the most pressing social, political, and spiritual concerns of our time. The Sunday Times of London has named Osho as one of the '1000 Makers of the 20th Century.' His books are bestsellers in many languages and many countries.

Zen is not a religion, not a dogma, not a creed. Zen is not even a quest, an inquiry; it is non-philosophical. The fundamental of the Zen approach is that all is as it should be, nothing is missing. This very moement everything is perfect.'-Osho

Osho is one of the best known and most provocative contemporary mystics of the twentieth century. HIs wisdom is legendary, as is his skill in guiding his audience to an understanding of complex philosophical concepts using humor and the art of storytelling. In Zen-Its History and Teachings, Osho takes the reader on a journey of understanding that cannot be taught but can only be experienced.

Books on Zen have a reputation for being difficult, and so-called popular books on Zen usually devolve into amorphous New Age-isms. Osho's book is a delightful exception, providing a brief history of Zen's evolution from Buddhism as well as the key ideas that will guide you as you surrender to the principles that are Zen. I especially appreciated Osho's blunt talk mixed with witty humor. (The book is based on excerpts of some of Osho's public addresses.) I've read many books about Zen, but only Osho's comes across as a conversation with a truly vibrant and caring guide.--Danno

I thought this would be a nice book about Zen. It isn't. It is a book full of the teachings of Osho Rajneesh, also called Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. This man made some bizarre statements, and some downright offensive stereotypes of people in this book. My husband, who seriously studies Zen, was really shocked. We'll keep it as a curiousity, but it is NOT a serious book about REAL Zen. (This guy had a commune and was given 90 Rolls Royces by his disciples, and stated at one point that he's had sex with more women than any man alive...make up your own mind as to whether he has something special to teach you.)-Nessa nessa
