A very interesting book. It is long on pictures and short of text which is perfect for someone who is interested in some of the photos of that terrible war and have short paragraphs next to each photo.

There are also page long descriptions of each major battle. Being a Civil War photo collector, the photos are nothing that I haven't seen a million times or own similar already, but to someone new to seeing these 150 year old photos, you are in for a treat. A

I just had the chance to visit The Hermitage outside of Nashville, TN this past week, and being the Presidential geek that i am, I had to get the souvenir tour book as i departed, and i just read it on the plane trip home today. Fascinating President and his home is striking in its beauty and the amount of original furnishings, bedding, wall coverings, etc. were remarkable. This book tells a fairly detailed story of Jackson's life, his Presidency, his varied military adventures and his later life, incorporating the importance of this home to his life. Slavery, Indian conquering and relocating, duels ending in death, and unauthorized fighting in foreign territories all seem to be dealt with honestly...because it did all happen. Happy to have had the privilege of visiting & this was well worth picking up!… (more)
