About the Author

Author, illustrator, and radio commentator Daniel M. Pinkwater was born in Memphis Tennessee on November 15, 1941. He is trained as an artist and attended Bard College. In 1969, he wrote and illustrated his first book, The Terrible Roar. Since then he has written over 50 books for children, young show more adults, and adults. He is also a commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered and regularly reviews children's books on Weekend Edition Saturday. While he has illustrated many of his works, his most recent ones have been illustrated by his wife Jill Pinkwater. Since 1987, he has been a regular commentator on NPR's All Things Considered and two collections of his essays have been brought out to the delight of listeners who can read. Wonderfully weird, the story of a prepubescent boy exploring the world after being left alone for a time. Perfectly captures the nonsensical aspects of the adult world as daily experienced by children... and also a strange story that becomes even wilder as it goes along. It’s reminiscent of Richard Brautigan in places. My ten-year-old had honestly never heard a story like this before; I think it opened his eyes to the possibilities of art. Does contain some dated references that need to be explained, but that’s part of the fun.… (more)

Well, they found Bobowicz and made some new friends, got their comics and bicycle back, and avoided the the oyster stew. Surreal and funny.

This is a cute Halloween read- aloud, perfect for students K-3. My third grade class laughed out loud.
