Henry Pownall

An interesting set of contemporary memoirs from a secondary player in the British Army firmament, but one who had position to see interesting things, especially when he was Chief of Staff to Lord Gort's BEF in the 1939-1940 era. His pungent comments on Leslie Hore-Belisha, the Minister of War in the '38-'39 era might be a bit unfair, but they are a comment on civilian-military relations.
