This story tells of a man caught in the wrong place at the wrong time who survives an ordeal not many would be able to. He rebuilds himself in a way I would compare to that of a phoenix rising from the ashes. Pete McGregor becomes Boss MacTavin - a man bent on justifiable revenge. But, Boss is a man of character with a heart of gold and a variety of superior skills he has developed that usurp the average man’s abilities.
While reading this book I felt at times as if I had stepped into scenes from a Tarantino film that has yet to be made. I could relate to and understand every character in the book and came away feeling good at the end of the story and also eager to read the next book in the series. I can see this series of books eventually becoming a movie or television program and have spent some time contemplating who I would cast as characters to play the parts if I were in charge.
Reb MacRath was a new author to me but one I will look for from now on. He creates wonderful characters, describes places in a way that makes you feel you are actually there and has word skills that actually made me go back to look for this one alliterative sentence that blew me away: “On the porch purple pots of pert poppies sat parked on a plank propped atop plump pink pickets.
If you are in the mood for a great book that is written by a superior author this just might be the book for you.… (more)
