Princess Marie-Esméralda is the youngest child of King Leopold III of Belgium and his second wife Liliane Baels, known as Princess of Réthy. She is a journalist and author writing under the name Esmeralda de Réthy. In 1998, she married Sir Salvador Moncada, a pharmacologist, with whom she has two children. In addition to Christian Dior: The Early Years (2001), she has published two books dedicated to her father: Léopold III, mon père, and Léopold III photographe. She serves as president of the Fonds Léopold III pour l'Exploration et la Conservation de la Nature.
