An early look at how servicewomen fared under the All Volunteer Force established in 1973. The author, a journalist, examines women's lives in the military with the disestablishment of the women's service during the late 1970s. Author witnessed a complete basic training cycle at Fort McClellan Alabama and visited West Point to talk to the women of the class of 1980. She also interviewed selected women WWI and World War II vets, including a POW and a Signal Corps telephone operator.
