In the Pirate's Parrot Captain Cur loses his parrot and his glasses. When his pirates are sent to shore to get him new things they return with a teddy bear instead. They pull off the first encounter then try to get rid of the bear. The bear comes to life and becomes the Captain's parrot helping them capture ships because the other sailors are laughing so hard. One day the other pirates tell Barr (the teddy bear) that she is not a real pirate's parrot because she does not fight. Then when they come across the Sea Weasel she puts up the fight of her life and ends up saving the Captain. After the fight the captain gets his eye glass back and sees that his parrot has been a bear when everyone thinks that he will be mad, but he his not and he takes Barr as his parrot. The story also is a great story to show students how to accept people, or anything, for who they are. I would love to use this book in my classroom.… (more)
