Marianne Ruuth left home at the age of 14 and became an actress with the Royal Theater of Stockholm. Later she became a journalist. She was sent by her newspaper to Los Angeles for a one-year assignment and decided to live in the USA permanently.

She wrote articles, profiles, feature stories, and short stories for Swedish magazines and the French newspaper Le Figaro.

She also published novels and celebrity biographies. She translated Swedish books into English, including Images: My Life In Film (1994) by Ingmar Bergman.

She served as president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Associaton from 1980 to 1982 and oversaw media relations for the organization for 12 years.
