This book is of the same high quality as the author's prior book on the German soldier ("Deutsche Soldaten", 2008).

The photographs are excellent! The layouts for the equipment photographs are artistically very effective. The period photographs and postcards are outstanding.

The coverage and organization is incredible. From the Index it covers Helmet, Uniform (with Headgear, Clothing and Footwear), Field Equipment, Weapons, Communications, Sanitation, Hygiene, Medals and Awards, The Mess, Drink, Personal Effects, Handwriting, Leisure Time and Faith and Strength. There is a Prologue, an Introduction and a Bibliography.

Cons:
The text may at times tend to be pro-Japanese propaganda, but it would be hard for the author to do otherwise. I was never seriously offended.
The writing on the spine (of both the dust jacket and the hardcover book) is the reverse (upside down) of what I am used to.
There are errors, but they are not troublesome:
On page 328, in #15, 'this mayor' should be 'this major'. Also on page 329, in #21.
On page 329, in #21, 'Lieutenant' should be 'Lieutenant General'.… (more)

An absolute must have for anyone interested in the German Landser of World War 2. Agustin Saiz has assembled what must surely be one of the finest studies of the gear and personal effects of the basic German infantryman during the period between 1939-1945.

Using almost exclusively original equipment and ephemera, this book looks at nearly all of the gear and items a German soldier would have carried during the war. Beautiful color photos taken from multiple angles show the construction and function of each item, and even differences in the same items made by different manufacturers.

I would highly recommend this for collectors, modelers, and anyone interested in the German Soldier of World War 2.… (more)
