The Hon. Monica Grenfell, daughter of Lord and Lady Desborough, was a qualified Red Cross nurse in France during World War I. In 1924, she married John Maitland Salmond of the Royal Air Force, later to be Air Marshal Sir John Salmond. Their daughter Rosemary married Nicholas Mosley. Their son Julian married Brigid Wright, elder sister of Susan Mary Wright, the future mother of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Lady Salmond's book Bright Armour: Memories of Four Years of War was first published in 1935.
