Short biography
Sophie Scholl's father was the mayor of Forchtenberg am Kocher, a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Her five siblings included Hans Scholl and Inge Aicher-Scholl. She had a carefree childhood and was a talented artist. In 1942, after working as a kindergarten teacher, she became a biology student at the University of Munich, where Hans was studying medicine. With her brother and his friends, she formed an anti-Nazi resistance group called The White Rose. They wrote and distributed leaflets criticizing Nazi war crimes, particularly against the Jews. Sophie and Hans Scholl and other White Rose members were arrested and executed in February 1943. She was 21 years old.
