As weavers become more familiar with each weave structure they often want to stretch out skills beyond the limitations of block structure and the harness number. This book is the result of that kind of exploration and growth. It adds knowledge to a path some would be hesitant to follow without a guide. Expand your design and technical horizons with this book's help.

This technique opens up a lot of creative possibilities for the handweaver.

The book begins with a chapter called "Heritage," which traces the history of freeform type design with the drawloom, Jacquard, damask, and brocade.

The actual technique however, utilizes only 4 shafts. The author discusses freeform for a variety of structures: Summer & Winter, twill, overshot, Ms & Os, Huck, Huck
Lace, Bronson Lace, Double Weave, and Finnweave. There are also
chapters on double weft and broadweft freeform techniques as well.

Useful appendices include: chart of appropriate projects for each technique, reed/sett chart, YPP chart for natural yarns, sample record card, and how to transport darts in garments. Also included is a glossary of weaving terms and bibliography.
