Short biography
Elizabeth "Betsy" Sheridan was the younger daughter of actor Thomas Sheridan and his wife, writer Frances Chamberlaine Sheridan. She kept a lively journal while in London with her father and her brother Richard Brinsley Sheridan in the 1780s, and sent the entries as weekly letters to her older sister Alicia back home in Dublin. Betsy and her sister married two brothers: Betsy wed Capt. Henry Lefanu in 1789 after Alicia had married Joseph Lefanu in 1781. Betsy Sheridan was also the author of The Indian Voyage, Strathallan (1816), Helen Monteagle (1818), and other novels, besides a volume of poetry (1812). The extended Sheridan-Lefanu clan included numerous writers for several generations.

Betsy's daughter Alicia Lefanu (1791-1844?), sometimes confused with her namesake aunt, became a poet and biographer of her grandmother Frances.
