Short biography
Louisa Henrietta Sheridan was the daughter of Captain William B. Sheridan. She married Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Henry Wyatt in 1841 and died a year later, probably from tuberculosis. Her publication The Comic Offering, or Ladies' Melange of Literary Mirth, first published in 1831, was the first British humor publication written, edited, and illustrated by a woman. Five volumes were released annually from 1831 to 1835. She wrote the first one entirely herself, and subsequent volumes included writings from well-known authors of the time. Each contained illustrations with puns and humorous and satirical poetry, songs, and short fiction.
