The Fire on the Snow by Douglas Stewart
Studied this at school in 1953 and remember being deeply moved.
You might like to know that the State Library of New South Wales holds papers and photographs from the Stewart family in its original materials collection - search for 'stewart family' at http://acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/search/simplesearch.aspx.
Stewart writes an informative book about Norman Lindsay, who was a close friend. There is a lot of name-dropping in this book, and maybe that is one of the things that keeps you reading.
