Clara Tschudi was born in Tønsberg, Norway. She is best known for her biographies of contemporary and historical women. Among them were biographies of women's rights activists Camilla Collett, Lina Morgenstern, and Gertrude Guillaume-Schack. Her 1889 book on the Empress Eugenie of France was the first of a series on women of European royal families that also included Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Letitia Ramolino Bonaparte, mother of the Emperor Napoleon.
