Horacio Verbitsky, nato in Argentina nel 1942, giornalista e politologo, è uno dei principali esponenti del movimento argentino per la difesa dei diritti umani e tra i responsabili di Human Rights Watch/ Americas. Dopo il golpe militare del 1976 entra a far parte di un’agenzia clandestina che diffonde le prime informazioni sui campi di concentramento della dittatura, e con i suoi scritti ha più volte denunciato le atrocità commesse dagli uomini che hanno governato il paese durante il regime militare e i silenzi di chi li ha coperti negli anni successivi. Collaboratore di “El País”, “New York Times” e “Wall Street Journal”, insegna alla Fundación para un Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano fondata da Gabriel García Márquez.
