Jake Vest is the creator of the nationally syndicated cartoon 'That's Jake'.Vest drew from his own experiences of growing up in the country.Vest started cartooning while serving in the Army in Korea in 1971.He also got the idea for 'That's Jake' in Korea, and the strip debuted in the early 1980s.Vest worked as a copy editor at the Columbus Enquirer and as a staff cartoonist at the University of Tennessee's daily paper The Daily Beacon, before becoming a cartoonist, columnist and writer for the Orlando Sentinel.
