I have divided feelings about this one. It frustrated me throughout, but wrapped up nicely in the end... although it did seem to wrap up almost a little too nicely.

I found Peppermints at the library the other day when I was pulling holds and immediately sat down and started reading it, much to my manager's irritation. But when you find an old friend you haven't even thought of in 30 or so years, what else can you do but say hello? Re-reading the novel as an adult dampened its magic just a tad--did I really admire goody-two-shoes Emily as much as I remember?--but all in all, the exciting mystery with real villains and serious stakes holds up.

I obviously loved this growing up. A young, wealthy orphan is kidnapped and forced into a workhouse/glass factory. There's misery and mystery and it's marvelous. Perfect for the young, future readers of Dickens.
