Very comprehensive coverage of medieval russian literature from early folk tales to later autobiographies and poetry, covering many of hte 'first to appear" in russian literature. So much of the early russian literature was church related, and thus, heavily represented in this volume - which can lead to some tedious reading. Each piece (there are more than 40) is prefaced with the historical and literary background as well as the source for the origin of the piece.
